Summer is upon us and here at Advance Landscape Designs we are looking to enhance the beauty of your lawn. Here are a few summer tips to help with the heat, drought and aestheticism of your landscape:

  •  Summer is a perfect time to remind ourselves that fertilization is a vital part of keeping your lawn green and healthy. Fertilizing is the cheapest and easiest way to make a big impact on your lawn. Without the use of fertilizer, most turf-grasses will struggle to maintain their color and vigor. If you have a need for fertilization, now is the time to contact our office to set up a visit from our lawn technicians.

  •  It is good to remember to mulch and turnover your beds during the next months to help maintain the health of any plants in danger of becoming dehydrated during these hot summer months. A layer of mulch will help prevent the germination of weeds to keep them from growing, help moderate the soil temperature and retain moisture during dry weather, reducing the need for watering. For any mulching needs, please contact Advance Landscape Designs to see how we can be of assistance.

  •  Remember that watering is also important. But as always, please remember your city watering ordinances. One other note to remember in regards to watering, is that shaded areas throughout your home can afford to be watered 30% less than your exposed landscape. Shade creates a micro-climate of cooler temperatures and lower evaporation, so plants need less water. This saves you both time and money! Always remember to water early in the morning or late at night, so that the water may be absorbed by the soil instead of evaporating quickly. To help you avoid over-watering, use a trowel or shovel to check soil moisture depth. If the top two or three inches of soil is dry, then you know it’s time to water. Your lawn should receive at least 1/2" of water per week.

  • We like to recommend that during the hot summer months, grass be cut higher than average to help maintain moisture and the greenery on your lawn. If your lawn is being cut too low, it may be time to revisit this matter, as low grass can feed into the hot summers. Leveling up your grass can prevent dead grass, yellow spots, as well as fungus.

As always, we here at Advance Landscape Designs look to enhance the beauty of your lawn. It is our primary goal and we take pride in it. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding your lawn these coming months of summer, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
